Glad you got your money back; I hate'em too!

I've been a card holder since early 90s with a 34,000 credit line. Pretty sweet , especially for an emergency, considering I only had about 4 grand in debt. Nice cushion, especially in these times. Well that was about to change.

I noticed on one of my statements that my apr jumped to a ridicuously high rate. When I called them to negotiate the rate down (usually companies work with you on this) they stripped me of my 34,000 credit limit and capped my limit at the amt owed.

I was livid. I called to try to do something to help myself and because of that call, because I took the intiative to try to lower my rate they stripped me of my huge credit line. Cut to the next day:

Still furious, I call BOA back and explain my position. I mention how disappointed I was that they took away my credit line when I tried to do something positive for myself. My words are abruptly interrupted with, "sir, I just closed your aacount.". What??!! I say let me get this straight, I call to lower my apr and you take away my credit line. Then I call to complain about taking away my credit line and you close my account!!

I hate BOA. They took 45 billion in tax payer bailout money then act like complete jerks. Hate is not strong enough a word. Despise.

well whaddo you know. i got my 60 bux back, after arguing like a cold-blooded lawyer with the branch manager. she tried to show me lengthy brochures and agreement forms and stuff -- but i read all of them and took my time.

sure, they said in the terms that they had power to charge me without notice, and that research fee costs 20 bux per hour.

point #1 - the brochures and papers and detailed leaflets weren't given to me when i applied. how can they say "i agreed to their terms"

point #2 - it must take 6 business days before they could admit me as an official account-holder. but they rejected me just on the 3rd day. and they took some of my money. how can they take money from someone who isn't yet an official account-holder? that makes their move "stealing money from non-members" instead of "charging fees."

point #3 - the brochure merely mentions that a research fee costs 20 bucks per hour. however, it's listed under "services." if it's a service, why would they give me that service if i didn't ask for it? i never gave them the go signal to use my money to make a research on me, just so in the end id get rejected. Chase Bank also has research fee, but it's nothing like BoA's. The client can employs Chase's research services if let's say i want to know my account activities 3 years ago, but definitely, they cant make researches without me asking for it.

Ha! Bank of America, i am not to be trifled with.

You should add the following links for visitors to your site. If everyone files a complaint....you're in business.

Hi,

I recently decided to avail of the $50 promo by BoA (in mission viejo, california), where if you open a new savings account (apply for an ATM card), theyll give you a $50. Sounded sweet. So I signed and all, and was required to deposit $125 before they could process my request (60 business days). 3 days after my application, I received a letter from BoA (Texas!) informing me that they decided to close my account because of risks their company found out about me. Then they provided a number I can call to ask questions -- it's their so-called "Risk Identification Division."

So I called. They told me that the company does have the choice to close my account whenever they want. So I asked on what grounds they decided to close my account. They just told me the company found a risk. So I asked what that risk is. Then they said it's something their department can't disclose specifically. Worse, they even informed me I can NEVER in my life open a BoA account, anywhere in the US, as if I'm a bigtime criminal or something. WHAT THE FUCK?

Then they said they'll just return my money. So, fine, I thought. At least I'll have my money back.

So I waited. And here arrives a check worth $65 only... SHIT! I deposited $125 and they're returning only $65? I called this Risk shit department again and asked how come. They told me the other $60 was sucked out of my deposit for that "Research Fee" for that mysterious research they did on me resulting in them closing my account -- which I never had an idea of! Do they even have a right to charge me for something I wasn't informed about? I didn't ask to be researched on.

SCAM!!!

Aside from failing to open a BoA account, they snatched $60 from me, wherein I should be getting $50 from their promo. In conclusion, I got nothing good out of Bank of America.

Man, thanks for this. After what they have done to me and other card holders that carry a balance (see the link below ), I needed to see that someone is getting the word out on how these guys are screwing over the average joe.
